Updating an Event Space in Kansas
A few weeks ago I was reading one of my favorite lifestyle blogs. They were writing about a house they had recently purchased. The home had original wood window frames that just weren’t maintained properly. Over time, the wood had grown mold and mildew and began to deteriorate. It was a good representation of why wood needs to be cleaned and maintained properly.
As luck would have it, a few days after I read that blog I saw a project from our pressure washing company in Kansas City that illustrated proper wood care. Philip and Wayne Howe of Renew Crew of Johnson County were hired for an issue at a popular event space, the Heritage Center in Olathe, KS. The roof of the structure has a series of flat roof dormers built with wood. Every time it rained, water would roll off the top and under the other side, leading to ugly stains.
Renew Crew of Johnson County used our 3-step wood cleaning process to tackle this job. For this difficult to treat area, the Renew Crew wood cleaning foam was incredibly important. A liquid cleaner wouldn’t have been able to dig deep into the wood before it dripped right off the dormer (it’s upside down!). The foam clings to all surfaces allowing it to drill into the wood’s pores, loosening deep-set stains and removing dry wood fibers.
Once the foam was given the opportunity to work, the wood was rinsed with a low pressure washer to remove everything.
Leaving the wood as it was after the rinse would have improved the appearance of the dormers, removing the stains, but it would leave them susceptible to the same issues if it weren’t protected. Renew Crew applied a natural wood semi-transparent sealant that keeps water from absorbing into the surface again, preventing stains.
Isn’t the difference amazing? Now the Heritage Center looks like the premiere event space in Olathe yet again.
